New Years Resolution - Not really - Blog Carnival

In all honesty, I generally don’t make specific “New Year’s Resolution’s”. I choose instead to consistently set tangible goals throughout the year that I want to reach. Often times at the end of the year I reflect on my past experiences, my progress made and take an assessment if you will of where I am so that going into the new year I can see if I am still headed in the right direction. For me for sure in 2009, I want to be focused more on “Going Green, building a business around it and I also want to focus on my ministry. I really want to help more people to understand who God is and to be used to help people move towards a closer relationship with Him.

What in the world?!?!

Ok I am a little late sharing this but today has been a crazy day! It was a crazy week last week with a speeding ticket on Monday (no job) and a car accident on Wed (my fault) and then my son gets a ticket on Saturday night and then to top it off Sunday I lose my dog on keys (yes the whole set)! I can’t find them ANYWYERE - WHAT IN THE WORLD?! I have been borrowing a friend’s car as my new car keys (to the tune of $48) per BMW dealership won't be delivered until Thursday! Go figure!

Well to make things so much better, I found $45 that I hid from myself while looking for my keys so that paid for the replacement car key at least! And what is just as exciting is on Blockhead Rod's radio show last night I won TWO prizes with the most exciting prize being 12 months of free advertisement for a whole year on Blockheadradio’s new website AND I won a WOOT button from the King Plugger Lugger. It was hilarious to see Agoodwitchtoo teasing everyone in the chat room by giving false alarms for the key to call in to win! When Huckleberry Arts finally posted the key phrase to call, I was on it! I was also encouraged that Fluttering Designs shared about my win on her blog! I absolutely love the Pluggers United Team for their “Pay it Forward” and helping hands spirit!

I am most grateful that in spite of all the challenges of the past few weeks, I have undoubtedly received some great kisses!

Pluggers United Team - Come Join us

Block Head Rod and group have gone and done it again! They have figured out just one more way to promote and encourage Artisans helping other Artisans! We are starting a new Etsy team called Pluggers United team. Pluggers United is all about Artisan’s supporting other Artisan’s! Membership is easy. Just go to the team Yahoo group.

In the group you can share ideas, links, sales, etc. This group is open to everybody that sells on Etsy. It will be a friendly group and moderators will see to that. Being a part of the Yahoo group is a requirement for joining the team. We discuss ways to promote, what the market is doing, shameless plugs, blogging, cross promotions, and more.

What will Pluggers United do as a team?

Ain't It Awful?

Now who says that? You guessed it! The keep you laughing Block Head Radio Show co-host A Good Witch Too! Love her to pieces! The show on Monday night was awesome! Those two hours went by so very fast! We got to hear from Linda of LDPhotography but as we tend to do, she shared far more about her passion of working with children with ADHD than her beautiful photography! We all learned a lot. How does she find time to do it all? Someone in the chat room kept typing “Butt Bubbles” (was that you Tilt?) so poor Rod had to keep playing that horrid sound – LOL!

We sang Happy Birthday with the most hilarious song to A Sew Happy Designs and acknowledged Roseworks Jewelry and Unique Commodities birthday! Uhh does anybody remember what Sew Happy reported about - LOL? I was too busy goofing off in the chat rooms (sorry Sew Happy)! Tulip’s Treasure Box won the Fast fingers shout out! Woot to TulipT! Fluttering Designs won the week’s give away (a gorgeous ornament) provided by The Magic Sleigh.

Be sure to join the new group on Yahoo started by Block Head Radio! It will be a great way to market/socialize with fellow artisans and the awesome Huckleberry Arts is running the site!

Blog Carnival - Winter Flowers

• Well this is a tough one for me (Unique Commodities) because I have a brown thumb and I don’t much eat brownies! LOL! So I figured well a picture is worth a thousand words so Winter flowers it is! Quite honestly I think it is a wonder to admire that a beautiful flower can bloom during the harshest of winters.
  
  A flower blooming in winter against the harshest of cold is likened to the persistence and perseverance of the very human nature to survive the most challenging of physical circumstances. While I am not a flower lover.. I give tribute to flowers that bring us warmth through its radiant beauty in the coldest of months.
  

Lavenders are Mediterranean in origin, so are great for water-wise gardeners. They thrive in well-drained parts of the garden, and only require minimal watering. Lavenders cope well in exposed, sunny, open positions, and grow to one-metre, bun-shaped balls. They flower prolifically in winter, and because lavenders are native to windswept areas of the Mediterranean coast, they respond well to pruning and can become leggy (grow abnormally tall due to lack of light) and straggly without it. Conduct two good prunings a year, after flowering, to cut back, followed by a fertiliser, such as blood and bone, to encourage quick re-growth.

Lavender

The winter rose (Helleborus) is actually not a rose at all, but a low ground cover with shy, nodding flowers. I’ve been collecting them for years – I fell in love with their muted plum and green nodding blooms, pretty spotted markings and papery texture. They are perfect to pick, good to float in bowls and last forever. Hellebores are easy to grow and not demanding. Plant them in soil enriched with compost or manure and give them light-dappled shade. They’re perfect beneath deciduous trees such as magnolias, crepe myrtles and maples, where winter sunshine will encourage more flowers and the summer canopy will protect them from too much heat. After summer, I prune off old leaves, allowing sunlight to reach the plant to encourage flowering. Then I spread compost around them; contrary to popular belief, they do not like wet feet.

Winter Rose

Primula obconica, better known as primrose, is lovely in winter. 30cm-high clusters of soft, lacy flowers come in white, pink, lavender and magenta and only last one season, from winter to spring. Better known is Primula malacoides, the fairy primrose; both are relatives of the humble cowslip. I like to plant them in pots for the house and garden to liven up bare spaces in winter. But be wary, this plant is capable of producing a toxic reaction if eaten, or a skin allergy when touched, earning it the nickname poison primrose.
